BRIEF HISTORY OF ST. MARY'S ORTHODOX CARPATHO RUSSIAN CHURCH
The original St. Mary’s Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church was established in 1942 under the guidance of the late Metropolitan Orestes P. Chornock. Father Stephen Dutko was assigned to the congregation as its first pastor (1942-1947) on South Park Avenue in Buffalo, NY. The church was rebuilt at its current Losson Road location in Cheektowaga after a fire destroyed it in 1984. The parish has continued to be active in the local community through various activities including food drives, fund-raising events, as an election polling center and a religious support network.
